Our Story

Vern and Edith Knoespel started Vern’s Cheese on March 1, 1964. They had one truck, rented cooler space, and ran the wholesale business out of their home. In 1967 they purchased a small warehouse in rural Chilton. With four small children, they would pack up the family car and deliver orders to customers. During the Christmas season, gift boxes would be displayed and sold from their front porch. In 1984 a parcel of land was purchased in Chilton. This would be the first time that the warehouse and office were together in one location. A production/cutting room was added in 1992 that allowed us to buy cheese in bulk and package it down into smaller sizes.  Throughout the years, more trucks were added, additions were made to the building, and Vern’s Cheese began to prosper into the respected business it is today. In November 2010, an addition was completed which consisted of larger office space and a retail store.

Today Vern’s Cheese distributes to many different grocery stores, restaurants, specialty shops, and convenience stores throughout ¾ of the state of Wisconsin, as well as parts of Upper Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Vern’s Cheese reputation for quality products and customer service support their belief in treating customers like family.

Working together as a multi-generational family business, Vern and Edith are joined by  their four children, Kelly, Kurt, Kari, and Kristi, two sons-in law , Wayne and Randy, and  5 of their grandchildren, Tiffany, Jarrid, Tyler, Jordan, and Ryan.

The Knoespel family, along with their employees, takes pride in the products they provide for their customers. Everyone at Vern's Cheese would like to thank you for your continued support.
